Paula DeAnda was born in San Angelo, Texas to Mexican parents. She began performing songs by her favorite artists with her cousins at family gatherings. At an early age she started taking piano lessons and singing around town, both as a soloist and as a backup vocalist. Her first public performances included weddings, local parties and other functions in San Angelo. In 2002, DeAnda's family decided to move to Corpus Christi in order to further her career in music.
Paula DeAnda's major breakthrough came when she auditioned for Clive Davis and was signed to Arista Records on the spot. "Doing Too Much" was the lead single from her self-titled debut album. It was released in July 2006 in the United States. This was followed by the release of her self-titled debut album on August 29, 2006 which features guest appearances by Baby Bash, The D.E.Y., Bow Wow, Lil Wayne, V Nice, Ak'Sent, and P.B.
DeAnda worked on the album with several noted musicians including Natalie, Baby Bash, Sean Garrett, Ne-Yo, and producers Happy Perez, Mike Aguirre of the Record Breakers and Stargate. Her second single was "Walk Away (Remember Me)" featuring The D.E.Y., which was released in two versions - one that contains a rap verse, and another that features DeAnda's vocals exclusively. It was written by Ne-Yo, and Christina Milian, with Stargate in charge of production. Her self-titled debut album was released in Japan on October 25, 2006. The track listing included two new songs, "Alegria" and "Easy."
On December 12, 2006, DeAnda released "Backstage With Paula Deanda" (on iTunes), and it includes four acoustic versions of songs from her original album. The featured songs include: "Doing Too Much", "Walk Away (Remember Me)", "When It Was Me", and "Good Girl." The album also includes a track of DeAnda having a conversation with Angel Garcia.
In early 2007, Arista released a third single entitled "When It Was Me," and as of July 2007, DeAnda's latest single, "Easy", is receiving more airplay and is becoming increasingly popular as radio stations are beginning to play it regularly.
DeAnda's single "Walk Away" was certified gold.[1]
In October 2007, Paula visited Monsingor Bonner & Archbishop Predergast High School in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania to sing and meet the students.
She is currently working on her sophomore album, due to be released in 2008.
On September 29, 2008.
Paula went to a charity festival for Hurricane Ike in Dallas, Texas. She performed her hits "Easy", "Walk Away" and "Doing Too Much". Then after the performance, she volountered to be in a dunk tank. But it wasn't just any dunk tank. It was a dunk tank full of mud. Rapper Yung Joc threw the ball to dunk Paula in the mud. When Paula got out of the tank, her entire body was covered in mud from head to toe. When Paula got out of the tank, she said "It was the nastiest thing I had ever done in my life".
The charity festival made nearly 2 Million dollars in relief to Hurricane Ike
Paula DeAnda attended Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She has three siblings, including two sisters named Brandi and Jessica, and a brother named Sterling.
Her mother, Barbara, is a nurse by profession who has put her career on hold to travel with Paula. Her mom is largely responsible for being the guiding force behind her career, and because of this DeAnda attributes much of her success to her mother's selfless guidance.
Her musical influences include Mexican vocalist Selena, R & B singer Aaliyah, and country singers Shania Twain and LeAnn Rimes.
