Sophie Dahl (born 15 September 1977 in London) is a British fashion model and author of partially Norwegian descent. Her mother is writer Tessa Dahl (daughter of the Welsh-Norwegian children's author Roald Dahl and the American actress Patricia Neal), and her father is actor Julian Holloway (son of actor Stanley Holloway).

Dahl made her name as a "plus size" model and was hailed by the media and the fashion industry as a glamorous icon who stood apart from the prevailing trend for unhealthily thin models. Dahl was discovered by Isabella Blow, a Vogue stylist who also lived in the same building as Sophie's family. Sophie had just had an argument with her mother, and was sitting on the front steps of their apartment weeping. The two women (who up until that point were strangers) struck up a long conversation. Soon after, Blow referred Dahl to Sarah Doukas of the Storm modeling agency in London. Dahl was featured prominently in many lare circulation magazines, including Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire and the British,Italian and American versions of Vogue.¹

Dahl achieved a degree of notoriety in 2000 after she appeared in an advert for the Yves Saint-Laurent perfume brand Opium. The advert featured a photograph of her posing naked on a fur rug. The advert was removed from UK billboards after complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority.²

It has been speculated that she is the namesake of Sophie, the protagonist of her grandfather's much-beloved children's book, The BFG. She has recently completed a novel titled The Man With The Dancing Eyes.
