History

Formation

The members of Trapt met in high school in the mid-'90's and shortly developed an act with Chris Taylor Brown on vocals, Rick Sanders and Simon Ormandy playing guitar, Peter Charell on bass and David Stege playing the drums. The band's first few rehearsals were in guitarist Simon Ormandy's guest-house, which had a party-like atmosphere.1 In 1997, they recorded their first CD, Amalgamation, which they sold when they played at local venues. The band received a great response and a positive buzz soon started to grow. In 1998, before the band had graduated high school, they were already opening for acts like Papa Roach. 23

Trapt

The band proceeded to sign with Warner Bros. Records and started recording their debut album, with the help of Robin Diaz replacing Stege on the drums (Diaz was eventually replaced by their current drummer, Aaron Montgomery). Meanwhile, they also moved to Vancouver, Canada to base their recording operations. On November 5, 2002 the band released the self-titled Trapt which produced a total of three singles. "Headstrong" was the first, and it reached #1 on both the US Modern Rock and US Mainstream Rock charts, as well as #16 on the US Hot 100, marking their most successful single to date, and becoming the theme song for WWE Bad Blood during June 2003. The second single from the album, "Still Frame", also managed to achieve #1 spot on the US Mainstream Rock chart, and a respectable #3 on the US Modern Rock chart. The third single, "Echo" (whose video had an appearance from Michelle Trachtenberg) peaked at #10 on the US Modern Rock chart. The Trapt album was certified as platinum status by the RIAA.

Someone in Control

The next release by the band after their debut album was a three-track EP (released March 30, 2004) that included live versions of the "Made Of Glass" and "Echo" tracks, as well as a previously unheard track called "Promise".

Their second full length album titled "Someone In Control", was released September 13, 2005. It produced three singles for the band, "Stand Up", "Waiting", and "Disconnected (Out Of Touch)". While the singles didn't do as well as the ones released from the first album, "Stand Up" still reached # 3 on the US Mainstream Rock chart. (Note: iTunes has "Lost Realist" listed as a single)

In 2006 Trapt toured the US with Nickelback, Chevelle, Three Days Grace and Thousand Foot Krutch.

Live! and Only Through the Pain

Their live album titled Trapt Live!, was released September 18, 2007. The album features two new studio songs ("Stay Alive" and "Everything to Lose") as well as live versions of nine songs from their earlier records. You can only listen to songs on their website www.onlythroughthepain.com as their myspace page has closed. 4

On March 7, 2008, it was announced that lead guitarist Simon Ormandy had parted ways with the band. He was replaced by Robb Torres. 5 Despite rumors indicating otherwise, Ormandy's departure was amicable, and vocalist, Chris Brown, continues to speak highly of Ormandy to the media, while promoting Torres as the new guitarist.6

On March 8, 2008, Trapt released "Who's Going Home with You Tonight?" on the band's website, a song from their upcoming studio album entitled "Only Through the Pain". 7 The band also posted 4 other songs from this upcoming album, "Black Rose", "Contagious", "Wasteland", and "Ready When You Are".

On April 15, 2008, Trapt announced they would be touring as part of Mötley Crüe's Crüe Fest, along with Buckcherry, Papa Roach and Sixx:A.M.. The tour is set to begin July 1 in West Palm Beach, Florida.8

On June 10, 2008, Trapt released "Who's Going Home with You Tonight?" as a single. They also recorded a music video for the song. 9 The song is now available on iTunes (US only).

It was announced on the 27th of June that "Who's Going Home with You Tonight?" will be part of the weekly downloadable content for Harmonix's Video Game "Rock Band". The content was released on July 1.

Trapt released "Only Through the Pain" on August 5.

Trapt will be touring in support of "Only Through the Pain" by opening for Hinder on the Jägermeister Music Tour with Rev Theory.

In March Trapt started The Contagious Tour, also featuring Red, Halestorm, Inept and also Since October at several shows.

"Contagious", the second single, is available as a free playable track in the iPhone OS game Tap Tap Revenge 2.
